Dylanは幼少時から多作で、最初の詩は学校の雑誌に掲載された。
彼の作品は、ラジオ放送の台本、ラジオ劇、短編小説、映画、未完の小説など、さまざまな形をとっているが、最もよく知られているのは詩である。
ディランの最も人気のある詩は、「Do not go gentle into that good night」や「And Death Shall have No Dominion」である。 また、有名な声楽劇「アンダー・ミルク・ウッド」にも詩が書かれている。
