Has vs. have！（HasはHasの略。 英語を母国語とする人もそうでない人も、簡単な単語でさえも誤用することがあります。 日常会話で意識しないほど頻繁に使っている言葉だからこそ、時々混同してしまうのかもしれませんね。 しかし、特にフォーマルな文章を書くときには、文法的に間違いのないように話すことが大切です。

例えばhas vs. haveというペアを考えてみましょう。 おそらくこの2つの単語は非常によく使うので、その違いを知って正しく使うのが一番です。

HAVE は I, you, we, they などの代名詞や、複数名詞と一緒に使われる動詞の形です。 一方、HAS は代名詞の he, she, it や単数形の名詞と一緒に使われます。

つまり、この違いはとてもはっきりしています。 三人称単数で誰かや何かについて話しているときは、名詞か代名詞かにかかわらず、hasを使う必要があります。 たとえば、she has two dogs and a cat, that Jason has to be home by five, or that this house has a red roof.

他のすべてのケースでは、have を使用する必要があります。 例えば、あなたには3人の姉妹がいる、私と弟は明日歯医者に行かなければならない、この近所の子供たちはみんな緑のジャケットを持っている、といった表現が正しいでしょう。

もう1つだけ、心に留めておかなければならないことがあります。 質問をしている場合、あるいは文章が否定的な場合は、常にhaveを使わなければなりません。 ですから、三人称単数形を使っていても、「メアリーは青い目をしていない」あるいは「メアリーは青い目をしているか」というのが正しいのです。 そして、「does」（または「doesn’t」）にはすでに「s」があるので、「has」の「s」は必要ありません。 8355>
